Spotlight on the 2026 Advocate of the Year

June 2026

The Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (HPBA) has named Shannon Reyna the 2026 Advocate of the Year. The award, presented at the annual Ultimate Awards Show at HPBExpo26, recognizes individuals who demonstrate leadership, persistence, and passion in public policy and advocacy.

HPBA honored Reyna, an Independent Manufacturer’s Representative for Travis Industries, for her continuous commitment to turning advocacy into action, educating industry professionals, and highlighting the benefits of fuel choice.

A Family Legacy

Reyna’s journey in the hearth industry began 30 years ago when she worked as a sales assistant and bookkeeper for her mother, Sarah Kidd, a well-known figure in the industry and a member of the original Wood Heat Alliance. In 2007, Reyna became a manufacturer’s representative, a position she has held ever since.

HPBA Membership

Reyna became directly involved with HPBA 15 years ago, using it to invest in herself and the industry. This, she said, “helped me be a better rep for both my manufacturer and my dealers.”

Today, Reyna serves on her local affiliate board of directors and chairs its government affairs committee. She builds member engagement by organizing letter-writing campaigns, coordinating phone calls, and helping plan affiliate Lobby Day events that create lasting industry momentum.

Reyna has participated in the Government Affairs Leadership Academy (GALA) twice and attended two state Lobby Day events in Sacramento, California. She is now preparing for her second federal fly-in event in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.

Encouraging Active Participation

Reyna emphasizes the power of active participation to educate policymakers on policy issues that impact our products and customers. For Reyna, participating in key conversations is crucial, and said we need to “speak out and fight for what our industry can bring to the table.”

Inspiring Others

Reyna urges members to stay informed and monitor local updates to help the industry thrive. She said we “need your eyes and ears in your region.”

“I am very grateful for the award and recognition,” she said, adding that she hopes her story “can help others feel willing to stand up and help us.”
