The HPBA Government Affairs Leadership Academy (GALA) develops the next generation of industry leaders by helping participants understand how government decisions affect the hearth, patio, and barbecue industry. Through monthly sessions, executive-led discussions, and hands-on exercises, the year-long program strengthens advocacy skills and builds confidence communicating with policymakers. Two members of the current class are already taking advantage of the opportunity, bringing fresh perspectives and a commitment to future leadership.
Meet the GALA Members: Laurie Pirini & Kade Lancaster
For more than two decades, Laurie Pirini, co-owner of Warm Solutions and American Chimney Services, has helped customers find the right hearth products and heating solutions for their homes. After joining the family business in 2002, she now oversees daily operations, including service teams, scheduling, customer relations, inventory management, and showroom sales.
Motivated by growing concerns over gas bans and electrification policies, she joined GALA to better understand the legislative process and learn how industry professionals can effectively engage policymakers. She believes advocacy is critical because government decisions directly affect consumer choice, home heating options, and the livelihoods of hearth professionals.
One of her biggest takeaways from the first GALA sessions is the importance of preparation and understanding all sides of an issue and the need to clearly articulate and defend policy positions while highlighting the value of collaboration and camaraderie within the industry.
As General Manager of Top Hat Chimney Sweeps, Kade Lancaster leads business operations, employee development, strategic growth initiatives, and customer relationships. After entering the hearth industry through an unexpected career opportunity, he has developed a passion for solving problems, improving processes, and helping grow the business while serving customers and industry partners.
He joined GALA to gain a deeper understanding of the legislative and regulatory issues that could impact the industry, particularly as energy and appliance policies continue to evolve. He hopes to learn how policy is shaped and how industry professionals can effectively advocate for their businesses and communities.
His biggest takeaway from the first GALA sessions is the importance of engaging beyond day-to-day business operations and becoming involved in conversations that will shape the industry’s future.
Applications for the 2027–2028 GALA class will open this fall. If you are interested in participating in the next GALA class, please contact governmentaffairs@hpba.org.
