H.R. 3699, the Energy Choice Act, continues to advance in the U.S. House. On November 19, the House Energy Subcommittee approved an amended version of the bill, sending it to the full Energy & Commerce Committee for further consideration.
The bill seeks to protect consumer access to a range of energy options, including natural gas, propane, heating oil, and biofuels. It also aims to prevent state and local policies that would limit the types of fuels or appliances households may use.
The legislation currently has 123 cosponsors indicating broad Congressional support for the proposal.
“Protecting fuel choice is really about protecting families,” said Jill McClure, President & CEO of HPBA. “When households can choose from multiple heating options, they are better prepared for outages, extreme weather, and rising energy costs. Our industry believes families should have the flexibility to decide what works best for their homes, their budgets, and their safety, and we will continue to advocate for policies that keep those options open.”
HPBA will continue to monitor progress and keep members informed as the Energy Choice Act moves forward. For questions, contact governmentaffairs@hpba.org.
