Strong Industry Representation Yields Results
The Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (HPBA) brought together members from across the country for its 2026 Congressional Fly-In on June 23–24, giving industry advocates an opportunity to take their priorities directly to Capitol Hill.
The delegation included current participants and alumni of HPBA’s Government Affairs Leadership Academy (GALA), members of the HPBA Board of Directors, Affiliate Executive Directors, and other industry leaders. Together, participants conducted more than 50 meetings with Members of Congress and their staff, demonstrating the strength of a coordinated, united industry voice.
During their meetings, participants urged lawmakers to support the Energy Choice Act (H.R. 3699/S. 1945), legislation that protects consumer access to gas appliances. They also discussed issues affecting solid fuel appliances, emphasizing the importance of product education, continued support for effective EPA programs, and appliance changeout initiatives that help consumers replace older appliances with newer, cleaner-burning models.
Voices from the Hill: Member Experiences
For many participants, the Fly-In offered a firsthand look at the power of grassroots advocacy and the importance of building relationships with policymakers.
“The whole experience exceeded my expectations. It was really great. I can’t express enough how thankful I am to have gotten to be a part of it,” said Jennifer Lance of Alpine Valley Fireplaces.
Shannon Reyna of Firebright Sales & Marketing highlighted the scope of the industry’s advocacy efforts. “I am proud of us. I am telling EVERYONE we had 54 meetings on the Hill. That is SO impressive! Congratulations!”
Looking Forward
Participants left Washington energized by the experience and enthusiastic about future opportunities to advocate on behalf of the hearth industry.
As legislation and regulations affecting the industry continue to evolve, events like the Congressional Fly-In ensure that policymakers hear directly from the businesses, professionals, and consumers impacted by their decisions. By building relationships with lawmakers and sharing real-world perspectives, HPBA members help strengthen the industry’s voice and lay the groundwork for continued advocacy success.
